Notary Public

A bit about our Notarial Services…

Notarial work involves the formal witnessing, certification and authentication of documents for use both within Australia and overseas. Whether you are dealing with international business, personal matters abroad, or foreign legal requirements, it is essential that your documents are properly prepared and certified.

Our Notary Public provides reliable and practical notarial services, with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail to ensure your documents meet the required legal standards the first time. When dealing with overseas authorities, even small errors can cause delays or rejection of documents.

What does a Notary Public do?

A Notary Public is authorised to:

  • Witness signatures on documents
  • Certify true copies of original documents
  • Prepare and certify powers of attorney for use overseas
  • Verify identity for international purposes
  • Notarise statutory declarations and affidavits
  • Authenticate company and business documents
  • Arrange or assist with Apostilles and authentication through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)

Notarial acts are often required where documents are to be relied upon in another country.

When might I need a Notary?

You may require a Notary Public if you are:

  • Buying or selling property overseas
  • Dealing with foreign banks or financial institutions
  • Granting a power of attorney for use overseas
  • Providing identity or qualification documents internationally
  • Managing an estate or legal matter in another country
  • Conducting international business transactions

Each country has its own requirements, and these can vary significantly. Our Notary Public can guide you through what is needed in your particular circumstances.

What is an Apostille or Authentication?

In many cases, notarised documents must also be formally recognised by the Australian Government before they are accepted overseas.

  • An Apostille confirms the document for use in countries that are parties to the Hague Convention
  • An Authentication Certificate is used for countries that are not part of the Convention

Our Notary Public can assist in arranging this process to ensure your documents are accepted without issue.

What do I need to bring?

To complete notarial services, you will generally need:

  • The original document(s) to be notarised
  • Valid identification (such as a passport or driver’s licence)
  • Any instructions or requirements from the receiving country or authority

If you are unsure, we recommend contacting us beforehand so we can confirm exactly what is required.

What happens at my appointment?

At your appointment, our Notary Public will:
  1. Verify your identity
  2. Review your documents to ensure they are suitable for notarisation
  3. Witness your signature or certify the document as required
  4. Apply the official notarial seal and certificate
Where further steps are required (such as Apostille or authentication), you will be advised on the next steps, or our Notary Public will arrange for their completion on your behalf.
